The long short of it:

I grew up in Moscow - Russia, right after the collapse of the union. Had a bit of a hard time, but mostly came out fine.

Got relocated to Australia when I was 12.

Studied in an Australian Perth school for the gifted and talented, after which I took up further creative studies in post grad with mentors and private teachers, focusing on classical visual arts and theory.

Moved to Melbourne around 2012, and took up a professional practice as a silhouette artist and a performer / art director for theatrical projects.

After getting together a few good collaborators, I had financed and planned a theatre show “Jack and Jill: The Poisoners of London” with zero experience and simply a desire to make it work. We ran the show at the butterfly club for the fringe festival. Myself having to do the creative direction, character design, animation and props.

After a little break, we decided to rebuild the show for a second season at the mechanics institute, armed with experience, better production values and a larger crew.

Somewhere in 2014 I started to progress to making mechanical automata and kinetic sculptures, while involved with a variety of exhibitions and workshops in rural Eastern States, teaching the art of silhouette.

In my casual time I started studying Audio Visual installation and live projection art.

Returning to my passions as an art director and prop maker around 2016, I had become involved with festival crews as a live projection artist and artistic lead.

During this time, to supplement my income I had put more focus into my clockwork toy manufacture business and started hiring extra helpers and volunteers to learn about the design of kinetic toys, operation of a laser cutter and general creative workshops.

Due to the high stresses and demands of running a full time business, I started to shift towards a more bespoke market (which would offer a better condition for my work) by teaching myself how to create my clockwork pieces out of metal.

At the same time, I became more and more engrossed in the virtual reality arts, through my side practice as a VJ. Getting into talks with some of the creative technologists in my social groups, I was invited to do some work for a new up-and-coming VR project focused on mental health. The catch was - I had to get a uni degree to support my skill.

Deciding that this was probably my future calling, I dedicated myself to a whole year of studying a post-graduate diploma of Virtual Reality. The pandemic hit right as I was finishing up.

My clockwork was pretty crippled by the pandemic, with Melbourne’s hard lock-downs, taking the business and the remainder of my sanity with it.

Luckily, I had managed to tee up an internship with a team doing the VR project, so then I spent the first half of the lock-downs learning programming and project management.

During the lock-down, on my downtime, I continued to play a part in the events and festival scene by providing live visuals and technical support to live streamed gigs and events. Each time learning more and more about unreal engine and what soon became my new vocation, Virtual Production.

Collaborating with some of the technical crews from the festivals and events, we started to transition to films and live interactive visuals for events. Finally taking me to the end of the 2021, where I’m well versed in virtual cinematography and virtual production, and am trying to step it out month by month, pushing the realms of dreams into reality.
